Riverbank Bikeways in Taipei and New Taipei

Riverbank Bikeways in Taipei and New Taipei

Written by Peter Nganon May 18, 2020January 11, 2021

The riverbank bikeways built along the rivers winding through Taipei City and New Taipei City form a vast network of bike paths. But they’re mostly hidden behind the flood walls and thus remain unknown to many visitors and tourists. We have compiled a list of various access points of this “bike freeway system”.

We took a ride along a popular cycling route among local cyclists in Taipei east – the Xizhi Pigeon (28km, 394m), which is found a pleasant route with the right amount of challenge.

Lois and Peter provide great service, are 100% punctual, prompt and accommodating! So BE NICE TO THEM! If you are experienced rider, they can fit according to your spec in terms of geometry. New riders will receive relevant advice. No where else in Taiwan will you find rental of high spec road bikes at this price.

We got a top end steel race (Master) geometry and an Audax Ti. Both came fully serviced, clean and functioning 100%. Accessories and spares like lights, tubes, patches and mini pumps are available. Tyres came in great shape. Both bikes rolled great, climbed great (Did Yangmingshan and Jiufen) and were comfortable to ride. Best combo, top service with quality products. So a big thank you to Bike Express Taiwan! Enjoy yourselves in Taiwan and leave the bikes to Bike Express!

Absolutely fantastic, personal service, highly recommend!

I was in Taipei on business and wanted to take out a high quality road bike for a day of riding. I found Bike Express Taiwan online and they sorted me out with everything I needed for the day, at very short notice.

The guys met me at my hotel and drove me to the nearest cycle path entrance point, talked me through the gear, checked my bike fit and let me get on with the ride. They then collected the bike from the hotel the following morning.

Thanks Lois and Peter for such a great experience!

I cannot recommend Bike express Taiwan enough! Lois and Peter were amazing from start to finish. They provided me with information about my trip to Taiwan before I got there. They even went so far to do research regarding camping locations for me. Picked me up from the airport and waited even with a delayed flight and lost luggage. They pick up and drop off the bike to your hotel/hostel in Taipei. Answered all my questions and were very supportive when I was doing my bike trip alone.

Great family owned company will definitely be using their service again and recommend them to anyone who’s looking!

Great, friendly service and nice bikes. We hired two Rikulaus at short notice for a week-long tour down the east coast. Lois and Peter delivered the bikes to our guest house and even helped us with the logistics of sending them back by rail. This saved us a lot of time and hassle, as we could get the high-speed train from Khaosiung to Taipei, while Taiwan rail sent the bikes back separately. Very happy.

Great service for race-bike rental! I booked on short notice in fall 2018. The communication was instant at all times and any detail discussed and agreed on was neatly kept later. I really apreciate their friendly, helpfull and super-reliable service, including delivery and pickup. Plus: their bikes are in perfect condition, classy and with titanium available truely stand out from the mainstream. 10 out of 10.

Abslutely fantastic!!! We are a bunch of cyclists from Singapore that just finished a ride from Hualien, Taroko Gorge, Fengbin and Taitung. As it was going to be a short trip we decided to not bring our bikes to Taiwan but instead to rent them. Best decision we made was to rent from Bike Express Taiwan. Great bicycles (we are a bunch of quite fussy folks when it comes to bikes), great service (they dropped off and picked up the bikes very, very promptly), friendly and accommodating (although we never met but Lois and I transacted very easily online). It was such a good experience that we were planning a comeback to do the unfinished business of Taitung to Taipei via the west and yes, we will be renting the bikes from Lois once again.
